A Brief History

C.S. GLAZIERS was founded in 1967 and was incorporated in 1969.  At that time there were four directors: Mr Brian Clarkson, Mrs Joan Clarkson, Mr Nicholas Stevens, & Mrs Betty Stevens.

The company started out in a very small unit in “Lane End” Buckley as glaziers carrying out repairs and new work for domestic customers and the trade. However, our site now spreads over approximately 4 acres in between Chester Road and Jubilee Road in Buckley, Flintshire, North Wales.

In 1973 we became members of the “Flat Glass Association”, which is now known as the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF).

In 1975 Mr & Mrs Stevens emigrated to Australia leaving Mr & Mrs Clarkson as the only directors. Joan and Brian’s son Neil and daughter Sharon joined the company as junior directors when they left school.

To enable the company to expand into the PVCu and Aluminium side of the market, another company – C.S. ALUMINIUM WINDOWS – was founded in 1979 and was incorporated in 1981. Mr Frank Clarkson (Brian’s twin brother) and Mr Neil Clarkson were the Directors and then Mr Andrew Biffin joined them as a surveyor and was later made a Director.

In 1984 the company began manufacturing its own double glazed units for our site work and partly for the trade. However, this has gone from strength to strength and has really developed over the years. Neil has overseen the double-glazing department obtaining the BS5713 Kitemark Licence KM35192 and the European standard EN1279.

During this time, the company ran a fleet of 8 site glazing vehicles, and was involved in high profile glazing contracts for Flintshire County Council (such as Mold Alun High School, Mold Police Station & Theatre Clwyd Mold), Chester's telephone exchange and others such as the Port of Liverpool buildings and the Toyota factory on Deeside.

Delivery of toughening plant

2002 saw the completion of our new factory extension to house a new 11m x 3m Lisec Automatic cutting bench and laminated bench, which is a state of the art machine.

We have also had new static glass racks fitted to be able to take in 3m x 2m 4mm glass, K glass and laminated glass. This can then be lifted with a new overhead crane.

We can now obtain our glass direct from Pilkington's factory at St Helens on a “Float liner” wagon, which brings the load straight into the factory.

In 2005 we had a new extension to house our leading department. We also had an Efco toughening plant 1630 x 3000 fitted at a cost of over £750,000. This enables us to have our registration recognised to manufacture “TUFF CYMRU” toughened glass and we are able to toughen glass from as small as 300mm x 200mm and as large as 1600mm x 3000mm and from 4mm thick up to 19mm thick.

We can also manufacture 8mm, 10mm and 12mm made-to-measure shower doors, internal doors and splash backs, with cuts-outs and all edges flat polished. We are also able to drill holes from 6mm up to 50mm. In April 2006 we obtained the BSEN12600:2002 Kitemark Licence KM502606.

In April 2006 we took delivery of a new inline 8 spindle polishing machine, which enables us to polish mirrors to any size from 150 x 300 up to 1600 x 2200.

In November 2007 Brian & Joan Clarkson retired, handing over the reigns of CS Glaziers to Neil.

In October 2009 CS Glaziers became certified Internorm Partners (Partner No: 89749).
